A typical multicast on an Ethernet network, using the TCP/IP protocol, consists of two parts: Hardware/Ethernet multicast and IP Multicast. Later on I will talk about Mapping IP Multicast to Ethernet Multicast which is really what happens with multicasting on our Ethernet network using the TCP/IP protocol.
Apr 28, 2011 · I recently stumbled upon this issue, I'm trying to join a multicast group (233.x.x.x) via an openvpn tunnel, the multicast soruce is located on the other side of the tunnel. I'm trying to send igmp-join from my pc over the tunnel to the server on the other side. But nothing. Multicast allows an IP network to support more than just the unicast model of data delivery that prevailed in the early stages of the Internet. Multicast provides an efficient met The IP unicast packet surrounding the multicast packet creates a “tunnel” that the IPSec tunnel encrypts and transports to the authenticated device at the receiving end. The resulting architecture is GRE over IP Security (IPSec), which is the most widely chosen VPN architecture for securely transporting multicast with advantages in Examples: Configuring Unicast Tunnels If you want to view the stream at multiple concurrent locations, then you would set the AVN’s destination IP address to a valid Multicast IP address (224.0.0.0 – 239.255.255.255). Note that while the Multicast IP address range is from 224.0.0.0 – 239.255.255.255, the first octet (224.xxx.xxx.xxx) is generally reserved for administration. Multicast routing is very different than unicast routing. Multicast is a form of broadcast, and like broadcast, it will not normally cross a layer-3 device, e.g. router. To overcome this, you use IGMP and PIM to route multicast. You should also be aware that many tunnels cannot transport multicast. You need a GRE tunnel. – Ron Maupin May 25 We are going to create a VXLAN tunnel with VNI 5012 so that H1 and H2 can communicate directly over layer 2. Nov 21, 2019 · Like @NolanHerring said the MX cannot route multicast traffic, so you cannot forward it over the AutoVPN. But yes, if you had another external device that could do multicast routing you could GRE tunnel it between two endpoints through the AutoVPN tunnel. This could be either a L2 or L3 GRE depending on how you wanted to do it.

RFC 7988 IR Tunnels in MVPN October 2016 As with any type of P2MP tree, each node of an IR P-tunnel holds "multicast state" for the P-tunnel. That is, each node knows the identity of its parent node on the tree, and each node knows the identities of its child nodes on the tree.
Multicast routing through a BOVPN tunnel is supported only between Fireboxes. When you enable multicast routing through a BOVPN tunnel, the tunnel sends multicast traffic from a single IP address on one side of the tunnel to an IP Multicast Group address. Anyone can point to a guide - if I see multicasts from Hi, I really don't understand why GET VPN uses a tunnel mode for multicast packets : Examples for an @multicast = 239.0.0.37 : 1 ) here a GET VPN packet : |239.0.0.37|ESP|239.0.0.37|transport layer|Payload| : This mean, it uses the tunnel mode of IPsec (two IP headers). 2 ) here a packet that i im RFC 7988 IR Tunnels in MVPN October 2016 As with any type of P2MP tree, each node of an IR P-tunnel holds "multicast state" for the P-tunnel.
